Gustavo A. Mares

Gustavo A. Mares, 83 passed away peacefully at his home in Las Vegas, NM on March 30, 2024 following an extended illness.  He was the widower to Isabel Mare.  They shared many years of marriage together.  He was born in Mora, NM to Pedro and Lilly Medina Mares on October 1, 1940. He was a member of Morada de Sociedad de Nuestro Padre Jesus de Nazareno of Buena Vista and Our Lady of Sorrows Church. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncles, nephews and friends.  He enjoyed fishing wood carvingmaking Retablos, going to the flea market as well as making new friends.

            He is survived by two daughters:  Ernestine (Pinky) Mares and companion Manuel and Donnella Sanchez (Jerry); two sons Louie (Andrea) Mares of Los Montoyas, NM and Paul (Pauline) Mares; 9 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: Jessie (Patti) Mares and Eddie (Cathy) Mares; four sisters:  Dora, Virginia, Julia, and Lucy; special caregiver Vickie Berg, aunts, uncles, numerous nieces and nephews as well as his puppy companion Champ and his kitty, Tiger. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents and sibling.

            Services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church, on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 beginning with a rosary at 8:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. Father Rob Yaksich will celebrate the Funeral Mass.  Cremation has taken place and the interment of his ashes will be at a later date.Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.gonzlesfunerals.com.  Arrangements were entrusted to Billy G.
