Sandra Marie Trujillo, aged 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 3, 2024, in Albuquerque, NM. Born on April 10, 1949, in Las Vegas, NM, she lived a life marked by her unwavering faith, her devotion to family, and her commitment to service.
Sandra is survived by her husband of 55 years, J. Mike Trujillo; her children: Diego and Francisca Trujillo and Michele Trujillo-Garcia; her beloved grandchildren: Javier. Diego .& Gabriella Trujillo and Jeremiah & Maliyah Garcia. She also leaves behind her siblings: Sammy Leroy & Kathy Martinez, David & Ashley Martinez, Sammy Jr. & Geraldine Martinez, John & Diane Martinez, Joyce and Julio Garduno, CT Trujillo, Anthony & Patsy Trujillo, Charmaine & Diego Griego, Tomasita “Tommy” Jaramillo and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Sammy and Lilly Martinez, in-laws CT & Consuelo Trujillo, and her brother, Nick Martinez.
After graduating from Robertson High School, Sandra worked for Mountain Bell, Foundation Reserve, US Census Bureau and New Mexico Highlands University. While working for the Upward Bound Program, Sandra obtained her degree in Social Work. She served the University for over 30 years, first as a Peer Counselor for the Upward Bound Program and later Support Services. Sandra was involved in many community support organizations: Big Brother/Big Sisters, Delta Sigma Theta Woman’s Sorority, Elks Spousal Auxiliary and NMHU Cheerleader Sponsor to name a few. Her participation and commitment to her community and profession enabled her to touch many lives with her guidance, wisdom and kindness.
A lifelong and devout member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Sandra contributed to her faith community as a Catholic Daughter, a member of the Altar Society, Parish Council, Eucharistic Ministries, and a Sacrament Instructor. Her life was a testament to her love of God and her desire to embody His teachings through her actions.
The family invites friends and loved ones to services in Sandra’s honor at Immaculate Conception Church with the Holy Rosary on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. Cremation has taken place and the interment will be in the Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. In remembrance of Sandra. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Mexico Highlands University Foundation, Box 9000, Las Vegas, NM 87701 supporting an institution that was close to her heart. Sandra’s memory will be cherished, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
